Star Wars Episode III
I watched it on Sunday... what's impressive is that George Lucas manages to spin the whole story until it sits in nicely at its third spot (despite being the last of the series) and it creates a smooth link into the first, original Star Wars movie (where Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are first introduced).
I thought Anakin did it out of desperation to save his wife. Chancellor Palpatine said he had the ability to prevent his wife, whom he loved dearly, from dying at childbirth. And it's so unfortunate that the Chancellor is on the dark side. Anakin is a pitiful figure: he has difficulty judging which side to follow. There is the scene where he wanted to kill Palpatine after discovering he was the Sith Lord. Then Palpatine poisoned his mind, and by the time the Jedi Master... is it Wendo?... went to confront Palpatine... they were both screaming at him... in the end he chose to follow Palpatine because of his promise.
A tragedy, you could call it...
